BREMOND BATTLES BACK, DEHORNS HARPER 21-18: Tigers surge back, knock off pesky Longhorns to advance to 1A title game

What a difference a half makes.

Just ask Bremond, who’s Tigers trailed 10-0 after two quarters of play.

Just ask Harper, who’s team watched a 10-point margin slip away as Bremond battled back for a victory.

After falling behind early, Bremond Head Coach ‘Slugger’ Hamrick used a rousing halftime locker room speech to spur his Tigers to a come-from-behind victory.

Bremond rallied back in the second half on Friday, Dec. 7 against Harper, using a combination of skill and athleticism to propel the Tigers to a 21-18 win and advancement to the 1A state title game.

LiDarral Bailey, the Tigers star quarterback, rushed for 136 of his 158 yards in the second half as Bremond set the tone by scoring on the opening drive of the third quarter.

The Tigers rattled off 21 unanswered points prior to a last-second Harper heave that kept the game on the line due to an 85-yard reception to make the score 21-18 with just under two minutes remaining in regulation.

However, Bremond’s secondary stood strong while the special teams units played a vital role as well in the Tigers three-point victory over Harper.

In the third quarter, Bremond began their barrage of scores with a 14-yard reception by Jacob Yezak to cut into Harper’s lead at 10-7.

Bremond’s final two scoring drives covered 87 yards and 92 yards, with Tigers running back Todd Crawford scoring the go-ahead touchdown prior to Bailey’s nail-in-the-coffin score wrapped up the win.

Rickie Williams, Bremond’s star speedy back, had no carries in the game after sustaining an ankle injury last week.

On the night, Bremond garnered 235 yards on the ground while picking up 99 yards in the air.

The Tigers, improving to 11-2 on the season, will now face Maud in the 1A Division II state title game on Saturday, Dec. 15 at Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches.

Kickoff for the Dec. 15 1A state championship between Bremond and Maud is slated for 2 p.m.
