By Denton Ramsey / Sports Editor

Residents of Grand Prairie are invited to get involved in the fight against cancer as the American Cancer Society needs volunteers for its signature event, Relay For Life.

Relay For Life is a unique community-based, overnight event which honors cancer survivors and remembers those who have lost their battle against the disease.

Each Relay Team comprises of 8-15 participants who will take turns running or walking around the track at Reagan Middle School.

Relay Team’s setup a campsite near the track, and when they are not walking or sleeping, they have the opportunity to enjoy a variety of entertainment and games while learning about the progress being made against cancer.

At this time, volunteers are needed to help organize the event by serving on planning committees and recruiting teams.

All those interested in taking part of this wonderful experience by being a part of the planning committee or those who just want to learn more about the event are invited to the Grand Prairie Relay For Life Team Captain’s Meeting at the Grand Prairie Chamber of Commerce (located at 900 Conover Drive) on Thursday, Feb. 1 at 7 p.m.

All proceeds from Relay For Life benefit the American Cancer Society’s research, patient services, prevention, advocacy and public education.
