Unfortunately, the Lady Warriors varsity basketball team is no longer undefeated in district play.

South Grand Prairie dropped a 75-58 decision to Hurst L.D. Bell on Friday, Jan. 5 as the Lady Warriors fell by 17 on the road.

Ashlee Mells led all scorers with 30 points, while teammate Breanisha Byrd chipped in with 18 points, in the losing effort for SGP.

Leading the way in scoring for the Lady Raiders was Lacy Luttrull with 19 points, Eld’hah Kaswatuka with 15 points and Shametra Brown with 10 points.

After Hurst L.D. Bell jumped out to a 20-16 lead after one, the Lady Raiders pushed their lead to 40-29 at halftime and never looked back.

L.D. Bell outscored SGP 24-16 in the third quarter to push their lead to 21 points en route to a 17-point victory.

With the loss, the Lady Warriors drop to 11-11 overall while moving to 3-1 in district play.

The SGP varsity girls’ basketball team returns to the court on Monday, Jan. 8 as the Lady Warriors host Trinity.

Tip time for the Jan. 8 game is scheduled for 6 p.m. at SGP High School.
