Gophers’ basketball team moves to 1-1 with 83-69 victory

The Grand Prairie Gophers’ basketball team moved to 1-1 on the season with an 83-69 win over Mesquite Horn on Friday, Nov. 17 at Grand Prairie High School.

After a tight first half saw the Gophers trailing 35-30, Grand Prairie battled back in the second half – scoring an amazing 34 points in the fourth quarter en route to their blowout victory.

Mesquite Horn’s James Graham led all players in scoring with 32 points in the losing effort.

For Grand Prairie, Trammell Lowdermilk led the Gophers with 17 points, while teammate Tory Lords poured in 16.

Also scoring in double-digits for the Gophers was Elliot Dowell with 12 points, Damybeon Oliver with 11 and Courtney Dixon with 11.


Nov. 16 Highlights: Mansfield 50, Grand Prairie 47

The Grand Prairie Gophers dropped a three-point decision to Mansfield in their season-opener on Thursday, Nov. 16 in a 50-47 home loss.

After a slow first half saw Mansfield take a 23-19 lead into halftime, the Gophers outscored their opponent 14-7 in the third period to take a 33-30 lead into the fourth.

But Mansfield came alive in the final frame, outscoring the Gophers 20-14 to hold on for a three-point victory.

Mansfield’s Cody Waldrop led all scorers with 14 points in both team’s season-openers.

Leading the way for Grand Prairie was Courtney Dixon with 11 points and Tory Lords with 10.
