Cougars pick up home wins in baseball, softball

GREENSBORO – The Southern Academy Cougars baseball team picked up a 27-0 win over Warrior Academy yesterday at home as the Lady Cougars softball team also beat Warrior 18-8.

The Cougars took a 12-0 lead in the second inning with the bases loaded and no outs when Warrior decided to make a pitching change.

With only two starters playing for Southern, the Cougars offense took control as they went on to take a 21-0 lead in the third quarter and went on to defeat Warrior by 27 runs.

For the Lady Cougars, Alayna Hinton led the team, going 3-for-4. Also contributing for Southern was Amber Miller, who reached base four times and scored four times, and Megan Davis, who picked up two hits.

The Southern Academy softball team won behind strong pitching from Taylor King (1-0), who pitched five innings and struck out three. Lauren Miller came in to relieve King as she pitched the final two innings.

Miller hit an inside-the-park homerun in the fourth inning as the Lady Cougars jumped out to a 13-4 lead through four and went on to win by 10.

With the win, the Lady Cougars are now 6-1 in the area.

Both the Southern baseball team and softball team return to the field on Tuesday as they face Sumter Academy on the road.

The scheduled first-pitch for both games is 3:30 p.m.
