Southern Academy baseball team sitting pretty at 3-0

 

GREENSBORO – The Southern Academy Cougars baseball team is prefect on the season thus far at 3-0, and the team has high hopes of moving to 4-0 after traveling to Meadowview Christian tonight.

In the Cougars first game of the season, they were matched against Pickens Academy. The Cougars’ Jake Johnson (1-0) pitched a complete game in a 3-2 Southern Academy victory, striking out 12 and allowing four hits, no walks and only one earned run.

For Pickens Academy, Brian Nance (0-1) picked up the loss.

Wallace Drury and Thomas Langham each had two hits for the Cougars, while Walton Washburn chipped in with one hit.

In game two of the season, the Cougars faced Central Christian. Thomas Langham (1-0) pitched a complete game for Southern Academy, striking out 12 and allowing only one hit and no walks.

Southern Academy won 7-1 behind some strong offense from Wallace Drury. Drury went 3-for-4 in the game for the Cougars and Jake Johnson picked up one hit and two RBIs. Justin Christian added two hits and one RBI for Southern Academy to help propel the team to 2-0.

 

Randy Harrison (0-1) picked up the loss for Central Christian.

The Cougars played Marion Military Institute in their third game of the season, picking up a 10-0 victory. Andrew Hoggle (1-0) pitched all five innings, striking out three batters while allowing three hits and three walks.

Tom Story (0-1) picked up the loss for MMI.

Offensively for the Cougars, John Kynard led the team with three hits and three RBIs. Walton Washburn chipped in with two hits and two runs scored and Wallace Drury added one hit and two RBIs for Southern Academy.

The Cougars (3-0) travel to Meadowview Christian tonight in game four of the regular season.
