DHS kicks in 5-0 victory

The Demopolis High School Lady Tigers soccer team defeated the American Christian Lady Patriots 5-0 last night at the SportsPlex to bring their season record to 4-0-1.

The DHS victory was also the first area win for the Lady Tigers.

“It feels great,” head coach Peter Keen said. “It feels real good. We didn’t play as well as I thought we should have played, but we came away with a W so that’s big for an area game.”

Margaret Landerfelt scored the first goal for the Lady Tigers to give DHS a 1-0 lead.

Megan Keen scored the Lady Tigers second goal on a direct kick to up the DHS lead to 2-0 and Amber Walker kicked in the third DHS goal off an assist from Molly Coplin.

At halftime, the Lady Tigers held onto a 3-0 lead.

In the second half, Megan Keen knocked in the Lady Tigers fourth goal unassisted and then scored again on a penalty kick to give her the hat trick.

The Lady Tigers did a good job of controlling the ball offensively, keeping the ball on their side of the field almost the entire game.

“We’re starting off the season like we wanted to,” Keen said. “We’re playing strong and we’re ahead of our goal right now so that’s a big plus for us.”

The DHS Lady Tigers return to action on Friday night in Tuscaloosa to take on Hillcrest. Kick-off for the Lady Tigers game is set for 5:00 p.m. and will be followed by the DHS boys’ soccer team playing Hillcrest at the conclusion of the Lady Tigers game.
