Trott robs record-breaker on 4A ‘back of the year’ award

According to the Alabama Sports Writers Association, Trinity’s Tommy Trott is a better back than Demopolis’ Devin Goodwin.

What have they been smoking?

Let’s take a look at the numbers.

This season alone, Goodwin broke the record for the most touchdown passes by a quarterback in Alabama history.

Goodwin threw 51 touchdown passes, blowing out the old record (set in 2002) of 46 by Russellville’s Jake Thompkins.

By the way – that’s at any level – not just class 4A.

Goodwin passed for 3,215 yards with 51 touchdowns and only eight interceptions.

Pretty darn impressive if you ask me.

Then there’s Tommy Trott.

In the rushing department, Trott rushed for four touchdowns on 10 carries with an average of 4.8 yards per carry.

On the receiving side, Trott had 52 catches for 1,034 yards and 13 touchdowns.

Granted, for a tight end that’s impressive.

But not nearly as impressive as Goodwin’s numbers.

Not only that, but a quarterback is responsible for the whole team. He’s like a General leading an army of men, and if anything goes wrong, it’s on him.

The quarterback on a football team is the leader – he makes the calls as far as who to throw the ball too or is given the option to run the ball himself.

And a tight end does nothing but block and catch.

The Demopolis Tigers won the last one, and I guess that is all that matters.

But, in my opinion, the ASWA robbed Goodwin on the ‘back of the year’ award.

Don’t worry though – anyone and everyone who watched the Tigers destroy Trinity in the playoffs this year knows that Goodwin is a much better athlete than Trott.

Watch the videos, compare the numbers, and then you guys at the ASWA will realize y’all made a huge mistake in naming Trott the ‘back of the year.’

However, baseball season is right around the corner.

And the Tigers ace pitcher, Devin Goodwin, will be out to lead his team back to the state championship game.

And now that the Tigers have won their first ever football title, it’s time to bring a baseball title home to Demopolis.

We’re on the right track, so why stop now?

This time, ASWA, don’t ignore the obvious.

Vote for the best athlete.

Don’t vote for recruiting.

Goodwin is the man.

Enough said.
