Friday night calls: Previews & Predictions

West Alabama Prep at Southern Academy

The West Alabama Prep Titans come into tonight’s game after a big win, 28-12, over Marion Military Institute.

And Coach Bob Taylor is excited about the victory as the Titans move to 3-2, with playoff hopes still alive.

“It was a win we needed badly. Very badly,” Taylor said. “We came out and played well. We tried to have a little wake-up call at the end of the first half, went on from there, and things went along real well.”

The undefeated Southern Academy Cougars, a highly touted team with predictions of a state championship, host tonight’s affair after a 41-6 blowout win over Central Christian Academy.

“We just hope we can line up and hope they [Southern Academy] don’t run us off the field,” Taylor said. “They’re good and probably the best team we’ll play all year. It’s going to be big with it being their homecoming, so it’s going to be tough. We just want to go out and do what we can to stay in the ball game. But they’re good. They’re not favored to win 1A for nothing.”

Tonight, the Titans will be heavily tested in this district rivalry against the Cougars.

But don’t look for WAP to back down, as Coach Taylor and his Titans aim to win a shocker on the road.

My prediction: Southern Academy 35, West Alabama Prep 20

A.L. Johnson at Akron

The A.L. Johnson Eagles are coming off a 48-16 loss to the Sweet Water Bulldogs and come into tonight’s game expecting a win.

Akron, meanwhile, lost 46-6 to Carrollton and come into tonight’s game as the host team.

My guess is the Eagles will most likely run, pass, and defend the ball better than Akron in this regional match-up.

Look for the Eagles to soar to another victory in Class 1A.

My prediction: A.L. Johnson 28, Akron 0

Linden at American Christian

Linden enters tonight’s game after a controversial 28-14 win over the John Essex Hornets last week.

American Christian comes into host tonight’s affair after a 41-8 beating over the Sunshine Tigers.

This game should be a tight one, but look for American Christian to begin to pull away towards the end of the game.

My prediction: American Christian 35, Linden 21

Fruitdale at Marengo

Fruitdale heads into tonight’s game after a 14-0 loss to the J.U. Blacksher Bulldogs.

Marengo, the host of tonight’s regional affair, lost 24-6 to Frisco City.

My guess is that Fruitdale will come out on top in what will most likely be a very close game.

My prediction: Fruitdale 21, Marengo 15

Carrollton at Sweet Water

Carrollton hits the road for Sweet Water tonight after a 46-6 win over the Akron Rams last week.

The Sweet Water Bulldogs, meanwhile, looks to continue their domination at the 1A level after a 28-16 win over a talented A.L. Johnson football team.

Look for the Bulldogs to take a big bite out of Carrollton in tonight’s regional match-up.

My prediction: Sweet Water 35, Carrollton 14

Hale County at Calera

The Hale County Wildcats enter tonight’s game against Calera after a 30-13 loss to the Billingsley Bears.

The Calera Eagles will be hosting tonight’s game after beating Gordo 29-12 last week.

My guess is that Calera will pick up another win tonight at home.

My prediction: Calera 28, Hale County 14

Central-Hayneville at Francis Marion

The Central-Hayneville Lions roar into tonight’s game against Francis Marion after a 40-22 loss to West Blocton.

The Francis Marion Rams, meanwhile, enter the game after losing last week to Clarke County, 46-6.

Look for the Lions to come out on the road and play strong for a win in this Class 3A match-up.

My prediction: Central-Hayneville 21, Francis Marion 14

Sumter County at Midfield

The 3A Sumter County Wildcats will be on the road tonight after a 39-6 loss to Aliceville.

The Midfield Patriots, on the other hand, beat the Northside Rams last week 31-0.

Sorry, Sumter County, but I have to be honest on my predictions.

And once again I foresee another wildcat beating.

My prediction: Midfield 38, Sumter County 0

Greene County at Livingston

The Greene County Tigers head to Livingston tonight after losing last week, 28-6, to Dallas County.

The Livingston Cougars, meanwhile, got beat fairly easily in a 54-22 loss to the Jemison Panthers.

My assumption, though, is that Livingston will pick up a victory tonight as they host the Tigers.

My prediction: Livingston 21, Greene County 7

Pickens County at R.C. Hatch

The Pickens County Tornadoes head to R.C. Hatch tonight after a slim victory, 17-16, over Keith.

The R.C. Hatch Bobcats will host tonight’s match-up after a 38-8 loss to the Vincent Yellow Jackets.

Look for the Tornadoes to blow through the Bobcats in tonight’s 2A showdown.

My prediction: Pickens County 24, R.C. Hatch 14

Pickens Academy at Sumter Academy

The Pickens Academy Pirates enter tonight’s game against Sumter Academy after a 27-14 win over Wilcox Academy.

Sumter Academy, on the other hand, will host tonight’s affair after a bye-week last Friday.

However, the Sumter Academy Eagles did lose the week before to Central Christian, 32-12.

Look for the Pirates to come out victorious in tonight’s district date at Sumter Academy.

My prediction: Pickens Academy 28, Sumter Academy 13

Clarke Prep at Marion Military Institute

The Clarke Prep Gators head to MMI tonight undefeated, and ranked number four in the AISA poll, to face the Tigers in district action on the road.

MMI lost last week to WAP, 28-12, and come into host tonight’s game hoping for a win at home.

My guess is that the Gators will move to 6-0 with a win tonight over the Tigers of MMI.

My prediction: Clarke Prep 42, MMI 8
